I am very involved with not only my school, but also my community.I have been living in the small town of Emporium for all of my life. Both of my parents were born and raised here, and we even live in the house my mom grew up in. I am 18 years old and am currently a senior at Cameron County High School. I participate in many school activities, some include: basketball, softball, volleyball, golf, student council, and honor societies.
I am currently a student member of the Cameron County Recreation Board and every Christmas I ring the bell for the Salvation Army. Being involved in many things doesn’t leave much free time, but I make the most of what I’m given. In my free time, I like to spend time with family and friends, but when it comes to finding things to do around here, it becomes a little difficult.

Although there’s not much to do here, there are some things that I love about Cameron County. One thing I like is that we have such small community that the number of people you know is larger than the number of people you don’t know. Knowing a large amount of people makes me feel safe because the chances of me knowing someone no matter where I am is high, and there will always be someone around who I know can help. Another thing that I like about Cameron County is all of the festivals and parades we have. Being able to go down town during a holiday and walking through the vendors is one of my favorite things to do. Our town is very supportive when it comes to local businesses and it’s neat to see all of the things and food people make to sell.
Upon graduation, I plan to attend college majoring in Occupational Therapy. I haven’t committed to a specific college yet, but I have a few in mind. Going into Occupational Therapy, I know that it is going to be tough to find a job here in Cameron County. After college, I am willing to go wherever there are opportunities, but my goal is go somewhere in the south. I would like to live somewhere where you don’t have to drive 20 minutes to go grocery shopping, or an hour to go watch a movie, I want to be somewhere that has everything I need and want right there.

From when I was younger to now, one of the hardest things was to find something to do. My friends and I love spending time and having fun with each other. In the summer it’s easier to come up with things to do. Our typical activities are fires, pool parties, and sometime movie nights. After awhile those things start to get boring. We then found some spots down county where you can rope swing and jump off rocks into the water. Tubing, kayaking, and Jeep rides are other things that we like to do, especially on a hot day. In the winter, we usually stay inside, watch Christmas movies, and bake cookies. There’s not much we do can do during the winter here, but sometimes we bring out our inner child and go sled riding. With there being lots of hills here, it's pretty easy to find somewhere to go.

One thing I would miss in Cameron County would definitely have to be Sheetz.
The most important thing about Cameron County, that never changes, is how everyone in the community supports each other.
...There have been many families who have gone through tough times and our community always does something to help out. One of the major things is every Christmas there is a benefit dance and all proceeds go to a family, or families in need. The support from others when it’s needed the most really makes me happy to be a part of this town.

Hi everybody, welcome to my #CamCoProud blog post! My name is Allyson Narby and I am a senior at Cameron County High School. I love to play softball and to cheer during football season. All my love belongs to my cat, Penelope! I also work at Fox’s Pizza Den, which I love.  I have lived in Cameron County my whole life and I am very lucky to live in this beautiful town where most of my family lives. My family is extremely close, we love to be together. Since my communications class is going to be interviewing our peers about how they feel about Cameron County, we decided we should also give you our input! So here it goes!

What do you love about Cameron County?

I love so many things about Cameron County. One of my favorite things is the view. I love driving around South Mountain with my friends, especially during the fall to look at the trees. The mountains always look so pretty and they really make the town feel like home.
I also really like that no matter where you go, there will always be someone around to help you with anything you may need. I remember one time I was working and when I was leaving there was a note on my window to let me know I had a flat tire. I was so thankful someone left it for me because I had no idea. I went to Sheetz to fill up my tire and as soon as I pulled in a man came right up to me and asked me if I needed help. I was so thankful for him and he immediately starting filling up my tire. That’s the kind of thing that wouldn’t happen in bigger cities and that’s what makes Cameron County such an amazing place.

Where are you going after you graduate?

After I graduate, I am going to move to West Virginia and to attend college at West Virginia University at Morgantown. I plan to major in biology and I cannot wait! I am so excited to begin my journey in becoming a Physicians Assistant. The campus is beautiful and I cannot wait to finally be a Mountaineer!!

What do you like to do in Cameron County?

During my free time, I really like to hangout with my friends. While a lot of the time, we go out of town when we’re bored, we still do a lot of fun things in town. During the summer, we always go tubing, it’s one of our favorite things to do. We also like to find rocks and rope swings to jump off of into the Crick! Sometimes, we will go swimming at a friends house and have a fire too. We always listen to music and just have a good time together. When we were younger, we used to walk around town all night long and we thought it was so fun. There isn’t a lot to do here but we always do our best to find fun things to do!

What would you miss in Cameron County if it wasn't here?

If it was gone, I would really miss Sheetz. I go to Sheetz all the time and for everything! If I’m hungry, I’ll go to Sheetz and get an app platter, or if my friends are upset, or even if I’m upset, we just go to Sheetz and get a milkshake. I LOVE to go to Sheetz in the morning and get my favorite drink, a cold brew!

What about Cameron County Do you hope never changes?

Something about Cameron County that I hope never changes is the closeness of the community. Whenever anyone is in need, the community never hesitates to come together and help. Our community is like a family. Everyone will always be ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

What would you change about Cameron County to make it better?

I would want to work towards having less drugs problems. Our town is known to others for the drug problem we have. I think if we fixed up the drug problem a little bit, more families would want to come raise their children here. No one wants to raise their child in a drug-filled town!
